This winter garden extension is a very typical living space extension in the form of an exclusive glass extension. For the time being, the existing terrace had to make way for the additional living space. It was then rebuilt later in front of the winter garden.
The inside of the slim supporting structure of the winter garden consists of the finest maple. All vertical posts and all rafters have a semicircular profile.
In the rafters here, too, our popular LED starry sky, which emits a cozy warm light from dusk and ensures a very atmospheric living comfort.
All roof and facade shading, as well as all motorized ventilation windows, are regulated automatically (and of course manually if necessary) via an 8-channel controller. The control panel and the dimmers / switches for the starry sky are in white here. All of these electrical parts were connected to the Steinbach energy column by our own qualified electrician.
The facade shading (external venetian blinds) cannot be seen on any recording, because when they are not needed they retract concealed behind the Steinbach special channel profile.
A special feature can be seen in the floor plan of this winter garden. The desired width of around 5.80m could only be achieved if the extension, seen from the outside, is on the right, just under a meter above the house edge. And since there is a balcony door directly in this niche, the corner was moved a little less than a meter forward so that you don't run into the overhanging corner of the winter garden when you want to go outside through the balcony door.
So that this corner or this offset fits optically into the picture, we have incorporated the crossbars of the popular Steinbach corners, which are also built into the front of the facade element. Fits as I mean ...
The double-leaf patio door and the shutter box were removed. The living room and winter garden thus form a large, coherent and bright living unit without a disturbing "door barrier". |

Since the winter garden has a strong influence on the climate on the entire ground floor, the choice of the right heating system is of great importance. The well-insulated house is heated with a heat pump heating system. This means that you work with a low flow temperature and the effective floor duct heating, which we otherwise always recommend, cannot be installed. The water that runs through the heating pipes is simply not warm enough to use floor duct heating (also called underfloor convectors) sensibly.
So inevitably had to work with underfloor heating. However, underfloor heating as the sole heat source has the disadvantage that it is too sluggish for a quickly reacting, completely glazed winter garden cubature, and it simply does not provide enough heating power directly on the glass on cold days. On cool days, you quickly get the feeling that there is a draft in the winter garden, as the cold radiation from outside cannot be countered by an effective warm air curtain. That would be the case if it was possible to work with a higher flow temperature and floor duct heating directly behind the facade glazing.
Even with a triple-glazed construction, an additional heating source should therefore be provided, which gives off enough energy on cold days and ideally switches itself on and off automatically.
The installation of a pellet stove was included in the planning right from the start. Thanks to the integrated control, the furnace organizes itself independently. Starts automatically when it's too cold and switches itself off when a certain room temperature has been exceeded for a certain period of time. You just have to refill a sack of pellets every now and then. Works great and the owner also confirmed to me that it just wouldn't work without a stove in winter!
Otherwise, this property also shines again with a multitude of amenities that are part of the obligatory basic equipment of every high-quality Steinbach winter garden. There we have the metal edge protection of the plinth bolt, the barrier-free and very smooth sliding doors, the integrated leaf protection grille of the special channel, which of course also serves as a cover for the retracted facade shading ... (Right, I already explained that earlier in this text - but it cannot be mentioned often enough ...)
The Steinbach corners, the energy column and the complete insect protection (pleated blinds for the doors, fixed frames for the ventilation windows) are optional accessories, but they are always gladly used and have also been used in this wonderful winter garden. |
